The National League of Cities Institute (NLCI) is the research and education affiliate of NLC. NLCI provides research and technical assistance to cities to help municipal leaders work more effectively on behalf of children, youth, families, and other community stakeholders and is committed to building more inclusive communities and improving health, equity, and wellbeing for all.

NLCI’s mission is to equip locally elected officials with knowledge, tools, and techniques to enhance their ability to govern effectively in their communities.

NLCI takes a holistic approach to its service provision. Among a few focus areas of NLCU, economic and workforce development, housing and community development, sustainability and innovation, health and wellness, and education and youth development are examples of NLCI’s research and analysis areas. Elected officials can leverage data about federal funding and webinars about justice, public safety, and more, delivered by subject matter experts, to inform their decision-making better. NLCI also houses peer learning networks, technical assistance projects, and leadership academies targeting early childhood success, education, and expanded learning, promoting a culture of health, youth, and young adult connections, economic opportunity, and financial empowerment. NLCI members, and on many occasions, non-members, have access to various tools and resources to create an environment where everyone can thrive.
